Holiday Hat Kit 2023 - Solstice

Introducing @simply_shetland and @gudrunjohnstons first annual Holiday Hat Kit, Shetland Solstice a perfect, collectible gift for Shetland enthusiasts and colorwork knitters.

Designed by Shetland-born knitwear designer, Gudrun Johnston, Shetland Solstice features colorwork using holiday-themed hues in @jamiesonsofshetland Spindrift: Eucalyptus, Spice, Nutmeg, Pine Forest, and Old Gold. Plus, there is enough yarn to add a charming pom pom.

The kits contain 5 balls of Spindrift yarn (1 of each color) and a pattern postcard with download code, all thoughtfully bundled in a branded & collectible organic cotton muslin bag.

Its truly special to be releasing my first holiday themed kit with Simply Shetland! Since joining the team as brand director, Ive had (almost) all the colors of Spindrift at hand to play with whenever I want. For this hat, I wanted to pick a selection of shades that had winter-festive names. There were actually quite a few! After several swatches, I settled on Pine Forest, Eucalyptus, Nutmeg, Spice, and Old Gold, and I couldnt be more pleased with the rich and warm palette they create.

We then had to make sure the mill in Shetland could dye and spin them up for us in time for the change of season. We were very excited when they arrived all the way from Shetland! They fit perfectly inside our new limited edition sheep logo muslin bag - which was drawn by my artist daughter, Maya!

Hopefully this is the first of many holiday themed kits I get to design for Simply Shetland!

Hat Size: Circumference at brim: 18 / 46cm; Length from brim to crown as worn: 8 ¾/ 22.5cm; Circumference at widest point: 21 ¾ / 55.5cm.

Needle Sizes: US 2 / 3 mm circular needle, 16 / 40 cm length (for brim); US 4 / 3.5 mm circular needle, 16 / 40 cm length (for body of hat).
