Charlie Beanie - Mandy Moore - Olach Designs

This beanie is a heavier weight version of my Brodie Beanie which is knitted in a lighter yarn. Both beanie patterns were written as a way to show that by playing with colour and tone a relatively simple pattern can look a lot more complex than it is! Both beanies use just four shades of yarn I would suggest that you choose three that are fairly similar in shade and tone plus a fourth stronger contrast. For these patterns it
is important to keep the pattern stitches dominant otherwise they may be lost in the background shades. There is a hyperlink below to those who are unfamiliar with doing this. The pattern is knitted entirely in the round, rib upwards, and decreases at the crown are done by using centered double decreases (CDD).

Materials

Jamiesons of Shetland Double Knitting 100% Shetland wool (75m/25g) 1x 25g ball in each of the following shades:
MC 126 Charcoal
CC1 253 Seaweed
CC2 789 Marjoram
CC3 1130 Lichen

Notions

1 set 3.5mm DPN or preferred method for working in the round for rib.
1 set 4mm DPN or preferred method for working in the round for body.
You may wish to change to DPN for working the crown if using circular needles.
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends. Balloon or hat blocker.
Stitch marker.

Gauge

21 sts and 22 rows to 10cm 4in over stranded colourwork using 4mm needles, after washing and blocking. Use 4mm needles as start point for checking gauge. Please check gauge carefully and adjust your needle size accordingly.

Size

One size to fit average size adult head. Finished circumference 57.5cm/23inches
