Sea Urchin Hat - Tracy Doxey

This beanie shaped hat design sheet is versatile. It has many ideas and options for you to either use my pattern or create your own. You can have a lot of fun deciding on your own colours or even your star motif but the hat shape will come out the same if you use 2:5mm needles. If you use 3mm needles, the hat will be more of a slouchy shape.
Ive called the hat, Sea Urchin.

Its inspired by Shetland and the sea urchins I found when out walking in West Burrafirth during November 2019, and from the colours that I experimented with when I was living and working with Mati on Fair Isle in October 2019.

I would love for you, the knitter, designer, maker, lover of yarn and the tactile act of knitting, to make this hat in whichever colours and with whatever tree and star motif you would like. Any motif will make the same shape as the decrease around the tree creates the crown.

However, please note that the pattern has only the information for the yarn in the blue and maroon colourway and not the pink one with sea urchins in it.

The hat requires 9 colours and you can have fun blending and contrasting these. It is knitted using 2:5mm needles but if you require a bigger hat, please use 3mm needles.
